Nigerian Nightmare, Kamaru Usman, has vowed to make Jorge Masvidal ‘squeal’ after ‘Gamebred’ expressed his desire to fight the welterweight champion at UFC 251.
Usman was slated to take on Gilbert Burns in the main event on UFC Fight Island on Sunday, 12 July, but, the Brazilian tested positive for coronavirus on Friday.
Masvidal, who was originally in line to take on Usman before negotiations broke down, swiftly declared himself available to replace Burns at short notice.
He tweeted: ‘Gamebred is an animal that has been bred to be game.’
The 35-year-old, who claimed the ‘Baddest Mother F*‘ belt against Nate Diaz in November, has even posted images of himself on Instagram ‘negotiating’ on the phone and taking a coronavirus test.
Now, the Nigerian Nightmare has seemingly accepted the challenge by tweeting: ‘Might be time to make the pig squeal.’
Masvidal’s dispute with Dana White played out in public last month as the duo argued about how much athletes should be paid during the coronavirus pandemic.
After talks reached an impasse and White bullishly told Masvidal ‘You don’t have to fight,’ Masvidal tweeted: ‘We are negotiating from like what 12% to maybe 18% of revenue we generate?
‘We are negotiating down from way under… I don’t get paid on the hot dog you sell in the arena or the logo on the cage.
‘I’ve never made a dollar on a ticket you sell. I get punched in the face for a living and even I know the pandemic or what’s left of it has nothing to do with it.’
Despite the disagreement, discussions are back underway and Masvidal looks set to rescue the UFC president’s show in Abu Dhabi.
