Lobi Stars Executive Vice Chairman, Mike Idoko, says the Makurdi side has accepted the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to cancel the league season after weeks of uncertainty.
The NFF, in a virtual meeting with stakeholders on Friday, July 10, adopted the earlier position of the Club Owners Association of Nigeria to call off the league season.
Idoko’s reaction was made available in a statement released by the club on Friday.
“In the spirit of sportsmanship we congratulate the three top ranking clubs that emerged 2020/2021 CAF Inter-club representatives through the instrumentality of the Points Per Game mechanism”.
“As a club, we had opposed the application of the PPG as it stood as an obstacle to our dreams of being in the continent next year”.
“But, no matter how rational our opinion is, it can’t pass the test of time if majority of the stakeholders hold a contrary opinion, wrongly or rightly”.
The Lobi boss added, “we hereby accept the final decision of the NFF without ill feelings and wish all the clubs that emerged as continental representatives in 2020/2021 season the best of luck and God’s guidance to do well in their respective CAF inter-club championships”.
“We had fought for what we felt was right, but, right can’t always be in the majority as well as majority may not always be right but could always carry the day where the voice of majority becomes the yardstick”.
Idoko, promised that Lobi Stars will continue be at the fore-front of supporting the growth of Nigerian football.
“We shall continue to remain law abiding to the League Management Company (LMC) and the NFF in the interest of all”.
“However, we declare the end result as a case of no victor, no vanquish because there will always be another chance some other time as our belief in God goes to say God’s time is the best”, concludes Idoko.
