Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, made Liverpool fan Adebayo Akinfenwa’s day by sending him a congratulatory message after Wycombe earned promotion to the Championship.
The forward asked the German boss ‘to hit him up on WhatsApp’ after their 2-1 victory over Oxford United in the League One play-off final on Monday night., and Klopp promptly delivered by sending congratulations to Akinfenwa.
“Hello big man. Congratulations. I watched the game but I didn’t see the post-match interviews but Hendo [Jordan Henderson] and the boys told me to get in contact with you on WhatsApp so here we go”, Klopp said.
“Congratulations! I’m pretty sure your whole life you wanted to be at least a Championship player and now, finally, you are there. Well done. Great, great victory”. “Even in these strange times I hope you celebrate appropriately”.
Meanwhile, Akinfenwa shared the video on Twitter, writing: “Are u crazyyyyyyy the man, the myth, the legend sent me a WhatsApp. Today can’t get any better. Thank you Klopp #YNWA #Beast20 #BeastMode we did it #champHereWeCome”.
The 38-year-old forward famously declared in the post-match interview four years ago he was “technically unemployed” and pleaded: ‘Any managers hit me up on the WhatsApp and get me a job”.
The Nigerian wore a Liverpool shirt to Wycombe training the day after his beloved Reds were crowned Premier League champions.
The former Swansea striker’s contract at Wycombe is also set to expire at the end of the campaign, but, Akinfenwa insisted only Liverpool boss, Klopp, was allowed to get in touch with him to celebrate their successes together.
