COVID-19: LMC Plans To Meet With PTF To Get Clarification On NPFL Kick Off

League Management Company Chairman, Shehu Dikko, says the league body has resolved to hold discussions with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to get clarification on the new restrictions relating to the pandemic and how it might affect the start of the 2020/21 league season,

“I can’t speak on that (protocols) now as we have to validate and clear the correct intention. The PTF is issuing advisory to sub-national entities (states) to discuss what to implement based on their situation. So a lot needs to be clarified.”

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, and the LMC had concluded arrangements to have the league kick-off on December 27, but, the recent increase in the cases that have contracted the virus because of what is termed as the second wave, the commencement of the season now hangs in the balance following Monday’s announcement of new COVID-19 protocols by the PTF.

PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha, had disclosed that directives have been issued as part of strategies to, “restrict all informal and formal festivity events including weddings, conferences, congresses, office parties, concerts, seminars, sporting activities, end of year events shall be restricted to not more than 50 persons.

“Where more than 50 persons are attending any such events, the gathering should be held outdoor” said Mustapha.
