Former Super Eagles forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, says he will not apologise to Nigerian soccer fans over the goal he missed during the 2010 FIFA World Cup Group B fixture against South Korea in South Africa.

The former Everton of England player will be remembered for failing to convert an open opportunity in front of goal to give Nigeria the lead at Durban Stadium.

Despite the outrage his goal miss raised among Nigerians soccer fans the former Portsmouth player believes he has no need to be sorry because his act was not deliberate.

The Edo-born former international made his thoughts known during an interview with NationTV on Wednesday:

“I won’t apologise to Nigerians at all because I scored many goals for Nigeria as well”. Even when I also sacrificed a lot for the country, did I get an apology from anyone?

“I will not apologise since it was not a deliberate act”

The 38-year-old who also played for Middlesbrough during his career retired in 2017.
