Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has confirmed FIFA’s decision to finally clear Reading midfielder, Ovie Ejaria, to represent the Super Eagles after the approval of his switch of allegiance.
Ejaria, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, has represented England at youth levels before deciding to file for an international switch.
The former Liverpool midfielder started the process of his switch in 2019, but, the pandemic delayed its approval at FIFA.
“Ovie Ejaria has been cleared by FIFA to play for us (Nigeria), that I can confirm to you,…” Pinnick said in an interview with The PUNCH.
The 23-year-old could be set for his Nigeria debut in any one of their two AFCON 2021 qualifiers’ games billed for March.
Since swapping Liverpool for Reading on a permanent transfer last summer, Ejaria has enjoyed good progress at the Championship side, registering two goals and five assists in 21 league games so far this season.
