In his first official outing with the Super Falcons, new Head coach, Randy Waldrum, has said he is impressed with the quality of players in camp ahead of their opening game against CSKA Moscow’s Ladies team in the Turkish Women’s Cup which will hold at the Emir Sports Complex in Antalya later today (Thursday).
Waldrum said, “I am really impressed with the group as a whole. I’m happy to see players show so much talent. The opportunity to see a lot of players is really important to me especially this year that is not a qualification year”. “I want to expand the net to look at the other foreign-based and local players”
The American who disclosed that the pool of players that will make the Falcons team will be expanded in order to get the very best to represent Nigeria, admitted that the country has abundance of talented players,
“We need to give opportunity especially to the young players that are up and coming from the various age-grade National teams”.
“Some of the players who featured at the last FIFA World Cup are getting older, and therefore it is important to develop the young players, give them confidence and get them ready for the next two FIFA World Cup tournaments. It is very important to look at the players in the domestic league”.
The former Coach of Trinidad and Tobago who signed an agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday, in a brief ceremony held in Turkey, stated that his mission is to build on the accomplishments of the African champions in order to make them credible contenders for global glory.
“My goal is to consistently qualify the country from the group stage, have a deep run in the FIFA World Cup and push hard to become champions”.
Super Falcons opening match against CSKA Moscow will kick off at 8.30am (Nigerian time).
They will also face Uzbekistan on Saturday at 5pm before squaring up against Equatorial Guinea next Tuesday at 9am.
