Oyo state has denied media reports which said its delegation for the 20th National Sports Festival in Edo state has been disqualified from the competition for failure to carry out Covid-19 tests and vaccination.
Oyo State Sports Council General Manager, Gboyega Makinde, made this known in a statement on Sunday by denying the claims and describing it as false.
“Oyo State has not been disqualified, but were only asked to follow the guidelines of Covid-19 to ensure they can be part of the festival”, says Makinde.
There were reports at the weekend, that the first batch of Team Oyo which arrived in Benin City on Friday for the festival got disqualified because they failed to provide their COVID-19 vaccination cards and testing results.
Sports Arena was made to understand that Oyo state have fulfilled all the procedures and ensured that the contingent made up of athletes and officials went through all the guidelines of Covid-19.
Actions at the National Sports Festival will commence on Monday, April 5, 2021.
