A perfect strike from Nigeria and Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, sent Leicester City into the FA Cup final after defeating Southampton in the semi final on Sunday.
Iheanacho’s 10th goal in seven games; ensured the Foxes reached the May 15 final for the first time since 1969.
For the first time in 13 months since the Coronavirus pandemic restricted fans from the stadiums in England, a total of 4,000 spectators witnessed the 1-0 win at Wembley.
The Nigerian got the job done in the 55th to get the chance of facing Chelsea as the Foxes aim to win their first-ever FA Cup.
After the superb showing, Iheanacho said, “The FA Cup loves me, and I love the FA Cup”.
His goal extended his run to having scored in the last three rounds while his finish was the 14th FA Cup goal of his career as no other player has scored more in the past five seasons.
Interestingly, Iheanacho who is the first Nigerian player to score 15 goals in all competitions in a season for a Premier League club since Odion Ighalo in 2015-16 for Watford, who scored 17, added:
“It’s a dream come true, loving it, I’m happy”. “We did it together to get to the final. I watched the FA Cup when I was little and now I get the chance to play in the final. Such a big dream for me”.
“We did it together as a team. I am proud of that. Really happy. We are really happy to have some fans today”. “It’s not easy with everything going on, but, hopefully in the final, there will be a lot more”.
“I just want to concentrate and keep working hard. Ofcourse, it’s amazing when you count the goals but my focus is to keep working hard”, concludes an excited Iheanacho.
