Nigeria’s Shot put star, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, failed to meet the expectations of winning a medal in the men’s final decided on Thursday.

Enekwechi, threw 19.74m on his third attempt to finish in 12th position.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medalist who was ranked 12th in the list of top performers in the sport prior to the Olympics, had made history on Tuesday after qualifying for the final to become the first Nigerian to reach that stage of shot put event.

Meanwhile, American and World record-holder, Ryan Crouser, threw 23.30 metres to set a new Olympics record and improved on his former record of 22.52m which gave him the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Games.

Crouser’s compatriots and World champion, Joe Kovacs, took silver with a throw of 22.65m while Tomas Walsh of New Zealand won the bronze with a throw of 22.47.
