The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed media reports which claimed that AITEO Cup winners, Bayelsa United, will not represent the country in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup because of the club’s failure to carry out the registration of players in the CAF Club Licensing programme.
NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi, who dropped the hint on Sunday while reacting to the “rumour” on a WhatsApp group chat said, “Please disregard. Bayelsa United will, by God’s grace represent Nigeria”.
The Yenagoa-based lower division side won the 2021 Aiteo Cup title on Sunday after defeating Nigeria Professional Football League side, Nasarawa United 4-3 on penalties in the final which took place inside the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo state.
By virtue of winning this year’s Aiteo Cup, Bayelsa United is guaranteed a place to participate in the second-tier Africa Club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup.
