Enugu state government has released the sum of N20m to the Nigeria National League (NNL) as host of the ongoing Super 8 PlayOff.
According to reports, the money was delivered to the lower league body through the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Manfred Nzekwe.
A reliable source disclosed that the sum is the financial assistance the state could offer to support the organization of the competition holding at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
“Enugu state govt has released N20m as its contribution to the organization of the play-off”. “I think the amount is too small compared to the amount of money the state had released to support some competitions that was staged in the past in Enugu”.
Few months ago, the Enugu state government released a whopping N50m to support the organization of the LaLiga U-13 Youth competition which took place in Enugu.
“Enugu government supported the hosting of the LaLiga Youth tournament with N50m”. Now, you can imagine the disparity in terms of support from Enugu state government”. “Can one really compare the NNL Super 8 PlayOff to the LaLiga youth tournament”? the source questioned.
The NNL Super 8 PlayOff will resume on Friday after actions involving DMD and Gombe United were halted on Wednesday because of torrential rainfall while Thursday was also set aside as a result of the Sit-At-Home order in the South East states.
