Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses coach, Reynald Pedros, has expressed delight with the organization of the Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament which enters Day 5 today, Monday, September 20, 2021, in Lagos.

Speaking during a post match media chat after his team played a goalless draw against the Les Aiglonnes (The Female Eagles) of Mali in their second game of on Sunday, Reynald said the tournament has provided an avenue for them to adequately prepare for the upcoming African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON)

“I’m impressed with this tournament because it gives a major boost to female football development in Africa”. “It has also helped us to start early preparations for the AWCON qualifiers”.

In his assessment of his team’s display in the competition, the coach believed the short period provided them to prepare was not enough to show what they could offer against their opponents.

“My team showed brilliance despite the short period of two weeks that we had to put up a team and prepare for this tournament”. “I must say we did our best, but, our Malian opponents showed more cohesion in their physical approach”, said Reynald.

Morocco had defeated Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses by a lone goal in their opening game last Thursday while Mali lost against hosts, Nigeria 2-0 in the tournament’s opener last week Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Aisha Buhari Cup enters Day 5 on Monday (today) as the Black Queens of Ghana will face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses at the newly refurbished Onikan Stadium in Lagos at 4pm.
