Enugu state has received the hammer at the ongoing 6th National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, for failing to participate., and, got fined N2.5million
Disclosing this at a media briefing in Ilorin on Monday, Acting Director Grassroots Sports Development, Bode Durotoye, said there was an agreement between participating states and the Ministry of Sports to punish any state that goes against the rules of the Games.
“Any state that fails to attend the Games without consulting the organisers was mandated pay a fine of N2.5m as penalty.
“Only 35 states are taking part at the moment as Enugu has decided to stay away”.
Durotoye also announced that Gombe state joined Enugu state as defaulters.
“Apart from Enugu, Gombe state also decided not to participate and has been given same punishment. But, before they would be allowed entry in the next edition of the Games, they will have to pay the fine”.
Durotoye added that a total of 3,470 participants which include athletes, officials, coaches and the media were officially registered for this year’s edition.
