BREAKING: Malian Football Federation Shortlists Gernot Rohr, Two Others In Final List Of Three Candidates

The Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) has released a list of three shortlisted candidates for the coaching position of the senior national team, The Eagles.

Reports say former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr top the list which also has former Mali international, Eric Chelle and former Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions coach, Winfried Schäfer.

The federation is now expected to name a successor to former coach, Mohamed Magassouba, who was sacked after the team’s failure at the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The new coach who will be on a 3-year deal will be given conditions to carry out his functions.

According to the federation, the coach who would reside in Mali for the during the duration of his contract will be expected to qualify for the 2023 AFCON tournament in Cote D’Ivoire and also pick a ticket for the 2026 World Cup.
