The 1st Gov. Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics holding in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, entered Day 4 on Monday.
To actions on the mat, Tokyo 2020 Olympian, Ekerekeme Agiomor of Team Delta, overpowered Jackson Oluwafemi of Ondo State 4-3 to clinch gold in the 86kg Freestyle event. Yahaya Muhammed of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) won the bronze medal.
In the 97kg class, former African champion, Soso Tamarau of Team Delta also won gold after beating Omega Bassey of Bayelsa State while Sunday Olawale from Kwara State won bronze medal.
In the same vein, Petezilagha Obazee of Team Edo defeated Team Bayelsa’s Andaowei Asanakpa 10-0 via technical superiority in the final of the 92kg class to win gold and Micah Damini of Team Delta got the bronze medal.
In the Women category, African champion and World U-23 bronze-medalist, Esther Kolawole, needed 86sec to defeat Bayelsa’s Favour Opuene 4-0 via pinfall in the final of the 62kg class.
Team Bayelsa’s Ebi Biogos secured a 6-4 pinfall victory against former African Junior champion Sunmisola Balogun, of Ondo State to claim gold in the 72kg class.
The competition which comes to an end today, May 3, will see the likes of Olympic silver medalis, Blessing Oborududu, multiple African champions, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Amas Daniel, Mercy Genesis, in action at the Indoor Sports Hall of Samson Siasia Sports complex, Yenagoa.
