Former Mali international, Eric Sekou Chelle, 44, was at the weekend appointed to replace Mohamed Magassouba, as new coach of the national team, The Eagles.

Chelle’s appointment followed the earlier decision taken by the Committee set up to recommend a coach for the vacant position had favoured former Cameroon Coach, Winfried Schäfer, to take up the job last Thursday.

After a final meeting by the committee on Friday, Schäfer was dropped after all avenues to reach out to the 72-year-old German tactician who had asked for time to discuss with his family proved abortive.

Reports say the committee finally opted for the second choice, Chelle, whose salary was within the range of the Mali Football Federation’s budget as well as his decision to work with Malian coaches as assistants.
