Ahead of the final of this year’s CAF Champions League, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed that Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, will host the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup final scheduled for Friday, May 20, 2022.
This was made known on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Elder Paul Bassey.
Paul Bassey disclosed that FIFA Pitch Consultant, Jorge Manuel Palmacuder, had arrived in Uyo on Sunday to supervise work on the pitch and training ground of the Godswill Akpabio International stadium.
Bassey, who is also the Chairman of Akwa United said with the development, the stadium will be closed to all activities until after the game which comes up next week.
In the meantime, a meeting between the FIFA Pitch Consultant and Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Julius Berger Construction Company who are the stadium manager will take place today (Monday) to discuss preparations being put in pace at the Nest of champions.
Orlando Pirates of South Africa, TP Mazembe of Congo DR, RSB Berkane and Al Ahly Tripoli are in the semi finals stage to decide the teams that will play in the final in Uyo.
