Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has confirmed 3-time Olympian and 1990 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Yusuf Alli, as Coordinator of Team Nigeria for the 2022 Commonwealth Games that will hold in Birmingham, England.
Dare said the Alli’s appointment is hinged on his experience as an athlete and accomplishments as a sports administrator.
The Minister expressed optimism that Alli’s responsibility would compliment the efforts of the ministry to ensure that Team Nigeria does well at the Games.
While thanking the minister for choosing him, Yusuf Alli assured Team Nigeria of his determination to do his best to make sure the contingent are worthy ambassadors that would bring glory to the country.
Alli represented Nigeria at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Los Angeles 1984 Olympics and Seoul 1988 Olympic Games. He won a gold medal in the long jump event of the 1990 Commonwealth Games in New Zealand.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will hold from August 8 – July 28, 2022.
